Mohammad AsadDozens of women, in the Gaza Strip on Sunday Nov. 29, 2015 formed a “human chain” on the occasion of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women.
NGO network Secretary-General of the United Nations Ban Ki-moon called on to intervene immediately and urgently to protect the Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails.
Organizations and leaders urged in a statement issued through a human chain in front of the High Representative of the United Nations headquarters in Gaza City on Sunday, on the occasion of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, to put pressure on “Israel” to respect the dignity of prisoners and their release.
The organization stressed in its call for the release of prisoners of children, and to provide food and necessary treatment of prisoners of war, according to international conventions for prisoners of war.
The organization said that violence is the occupation continues to be a major obstacle to Palestinian women to continue their struggle against all forms of discrimination in society, and also stands in the way of community development, democracy, equality and social justice.
Historically, Israelis have been oblivious to the gender or age of its targets. Israeli soldiers and especially armed Israeli settlers have intentionally targeted women and children to impose a “punishment” on the Palestinian civilians for complaining about and protesting against Israel’s Apartheid policies against non-Jews (Christians and Muslims.)
During the past several months, Israelis have assaulted and killed many women, alleging that they were involved in knife attacks or violence against Israeli civilians. In most cases, the Israelis have attacked Arab civilians in the occupied areas and across the border in the Gaza Strip.
