IVI-IPO endorse Muslim in 5th Congressional District
IVI-IPO ANNOUNCES ENDORSEMENT OF U.S. CONGRESSIONAL CANDIDATE SAMEENA MUSTAFA (D, IL-05) TODAY AT CITY HALL
Date: Tuesday, February 6, 2018
Location: Chicago City Hall, 121 N. Lasalle Drive, 2nd Floor
The Independent Voters of Illinois-Independent Precinct Organization (IVI-IPO) will announce their endorsement of U.S. Congressional candidate Sameena Mustafa on Tuesday Feb. 6, 2018.
This is the third high-profile endorsement for the progressive Democrat and first-time candidate, who is challenging incumbent Mike Quigley (IL-05) in the March 20th Democratic primary.
Mustafa has also earned the backing of national progressive group, Justice Democrats, and Northside Democracy for America, the local chapter of Howard Dean’s Democracy for America.
Founded in 1944, IVI-IPO strives to “achieve social justice through good government” and boasts a storied history of supporting political outsiders not tied to the Chicago machine. IVI-IPO endorsed two Chicago political icons, Harold Washington in his runs for Illinois House and Chicago Mayor, and Barack Obama early on in his first run for Illinois Senate.
“I am honored to have the support of an organization that not only shares my passion for social justice and belief in good government, but one that boldly supported my political inspiration who walked these same halls, Mayor Harold Washington,” said Mustafa. “In community meetings, on the phones, and on doorsteps, people ask for bold, progressive leaders who will support Medicare for All, defend civil liberties and get big money out of politics. The people of the 5th District aren’t getting that from Mike Quigley, but on March 20th, they will have an independent progressive choice on the ballot, with the backing of IVI-IPO.”
