Al Jazeera English program “101 East” honored with two Asian TV awards for journalism

• 101 East Presenter Steve Chao wins Best Current Affairs Presenter
Al Jazeera English is celebrating winning two awards at the Asian TV Awards in Singapore.
The program “101 East” won “Best Current Affairs” programme while Steve Chao won the “Best Current Affairs Presenter.”
“101 East” is Al Jazeera’s in-depth weekly current affairs programme which focuses on stories from across Asia and the Pacific. In recent years 101 East has won awards for its exemplary journalism from the World Media Awards Summit and Human Rights Press Awards.
Commenting on the success of 101 East, Giles Trendle, Acting Managing Director at Al Jazeera English said, “101 East’s success at the Asian TV awards is a testament to the quality of fearless journalism and filmmaking to which Al Jazeera’s adheres. Our current affairs documentary strand, 101 East, has always set high standards and is part of our mission to tell compelling stories from around the world. Steve Chao’s award as the Best Current Affairs Presenter is a reward for his hard work and pursuit of stories instilled with his bold journalism.”

Launched in 1996, the Asian Television Awards is the Asian TV industry’s most significant and celebrated event, recognising excellence in programming, production and performance.
Before joining 101 East, Steve Chao spent close to two decades on the frontlines in the world’s hotspots. Steve began his career in Canada working for various networks and was Asia Bureau Chief for CTV News, before joining Al Jazeera in 2009 as Senior Asia Correspondent.
