UNITY: Journalists for Diversity will host a Regional Media Summit in Chicago that will be held at the 

The conference is a two-day Summit in Chicago this fall, Thursday, October 20 thru Friday, October 21. A Town Hall takes place on Thursday in the evening, and the all-day workshop sessions will be held at Loyola University (downtown campus) on Friday. 

UNITY initiated  Regional Media Summits two years ago during our strategic planning process. We have been using this platform as a means to seeking stakeholder input about issues related to diversity that affect journalists across the country. UNITY has been gathering this feedback to help define UNITY’s future national strategic platform. UNITY also has brought national attention and resources to local communities riddled with social justice issues.

The Chicago Regional Media Summit will mark UNITY’s 5th event of it’s kind. Journalists, community leaders, journalism students and faculty will gather to discuss diversity best practices, issues affecting the region, the role that journalists play and how to respond to these issues. Chicago’s UNITY summit will focus on topics such as Community Violence, Diversity Media Coverage, Future of Chicago Media, and Harassment in the Workplace. More importantly, during the summit UNITY will gather journalists, advocacy groups, community members, business and political leaders for an evening Forum to dialogue about an issue that is greatly impacting Chicago… community violence.

Hotel reservations:

The Millennium Knickerbocker Hotel has given UNITY a deadline of Wednesday, September 8 to reserve a room at the discounted price. UNITY was able to get the Millennium Hotel to lower its hotel rates to $185/night for our group, which includes free WiFi during our stay.
