Arab News newspaper celebrates 45th year anniversary
The Middle East’s leading English language Newspaper, The Arab News, celebrates its 45th Anniversary this week showcasing its history in special retrospectives and a selection of features on the 45 most important Middle East events during its publication life.
The Arab News Newspaper, the Middle East’s leading English language newspaper, celebrates its 45th year anniversary this week with a special look back not only on the newspaper’s history but on the history of the Middle East during that period.
The newspaper was founded by Mohammad and Hisham Ali Hafez who created the Voice of a Changing Region in 1975 and later also launched Asharq al-Awsat newspaper in London.
Newspaper publisher Faisal Abbas said the newspaper will celebrate the anniversary by publishing a retrospective during the next 45 days.
“Today we celebrate 45 years since Arab News, then and now the benchmark for English-language newspapers in the Middle East, first rolled off the presses. As you would expect of a newspaper, we have chosen to mark the event with … news; in this case, the significant events that have had the most impact on the Arab world in the past 45 years, and how those events were covered by Arab News. Our coverage begins today, and continues for 45 days, both in print and online,” Abbas wrote in this week’s newspaper. Click here to read his column.
“It is both a blessing and a curse that our anniversary should coincide with one of the gravest threats to humanity for a century, and allows us to put it into perspective. It is tempting to believe that the COVID-19 pandemic is unprecedented in its impact on this region and the wider world, but there have been times in the past 45 years that we felt the same — and we survived.”
Today, the Arab News Newspaper based in Riyadh Saudi Arabia, has bureaus in Dubai, Pakistan, Japan, London and in Chicago, with plans to expand further in the United States.
“I’ve written for newspapers for nearly 45 years and I am most proud of the news, features and Op-Eds that are published in the Arab News,” said Ray Hanania, who serves as the U.S. Special Correspondent for the Arab News covering Chicago, New York and Washington D.C.
“The Arab News Newspaper is a great source of professionally written news articles and accurate information about an important region of the world to Americans. The Middle East has always been a mystery but the Arab News helps to shatter that glass wall of misunderstanding.”
Hanania, an award winning Palestinian American former Chicago City Hall political reporter and columnist, began writing for the Arab News Newspaper as a syndicated columnist from 2004 until 2011. He returned in 2016 as an Op-Ed columnist and in 2018 was named U.S. Special Correspondent.
“The Arab News Newspaper has a stable of some of the best and most talented writers, reporters, columnists and editors in the Middle East and is one of the most reliable sources for accurate information in the Middle East,” Hanania added.
