Arab Americans celebrate 100th Anniversary of Veterans Day

Arab Americans are very proud members who served and continue to serve in the United States military, including in the U.S. Marines, Air Force, Navy and Army. The service of Arab Americans dates back to the Civil War in the 19th Century, and includes service during World War I, World War II, Korea and the Vietnam War, as well as in military service during the most recent wars targeting the Middle East countries of Iraq, Yemen, Syria and in other missions in other Arab countries.

This year, the United States celebrates the 100th Anniversary of the end of World War I, after which Armistice Day (later called Veteran’s Day) was inaugurated, November 11, 1919. Armistice Day was designated by order of then President Woodrow Wilson.

To commemorate this Centennial, Arab Americans of all Arab World nationalities who served in the U.S. Military are being urged to participate and show our pride and our patriotism. “We served!”

If you are an Arab American veteran, or if you have a relative who is Arab American who served in any branch of service in the U.S. Military, we want to honor that service and we are urging you to submit your information and a photo, preferably in uniform, so we can showcase it. In doing so, we are reminding Americans that Arab Americans have done their part and continue to do their part to defend this country.

Many Americans need to know that we served. In many cases, those who criticize Arab Americans have never served in the military in this country. Our services trumps that and has a tremendous impact in helping to correct the incorrect information that exists about Arab Americans, mostly perpetuated by inaccurate stories in the mainstream news media.
