The American Human Rights Council (AHRC-USA) is pleased to announce its 2016 “Spirit of Humanity” Gala Awardees.
This year’s awardees are highly admired organizations and individuals diligently working to advance and protect human rights, and to alleviate human suffering. AHRC-USA is proud to honor these esteemed organizations and individuals dedicated to upholding human rights and social justice.

American Near East Refugee Aid

Dr. Chad Audi, Ph.D, The Detroit Rescue Mission Ministries (DRMM):
Chad Audi is an experienced senior executive with over 23 years of executive management experience and recognition as a visionary and dynamic leader in the public service and non-profit arenas. Possessing extensive non-profit and profit-sector leadership experience, he has earned enduring respect in the community for forming strategic partnerships and finding innovative and cost-effective solutions to meet the needs of jobless and homeless Detroiters, as well as those overcoming addictions, in a spiritually supportive environment.
In the last 18 years, he has served as an accomplished president and Chief Executive Officer of Detroit Rescue Mission Ministries (DRMM), a not-for-profit organization cited by the U.S. News and World Report as the 13thlargest substance abuse treatment center in the U.S, and reputed as one of the largest Rescue Missions in the world.

Dr. John Khaler:
A pediatrician from Chicago, Illinois, Dr. Khaler has devoted his medical career to serving underserved populations in metropolitan Chicago and around the world. Dr. Khaler attended medical school at the University of Illinois in Chicago. He completed his pediatric residency at Cook County Hospital in Chicago and then continued on at Cook County Hospital as a doctor for the next 34 years. Upon leaving Cook County hospital, he worked at a large Federally Qualified Health Center as a Regional Medical Director and then as the Chief Medical Officer at a large Community Health Center.
He has participated in medical missions in Africa, Mexico, Central and Latin America, Jordan and Lebanon. He also works yearly at a clinic in Duchy, Haiti. In addition, Dr. Khaler is a member of the Syrian American Medical Society (SAMS) and participates in its conferences.
Ms. Miakoda Wolin-Collins
AHRC’s Kayla Mueller “Spirit of Humanity” Award will be presented to Ms. Miakoda Wolin-Collins of Tampa, Florida. Nurse Wolin-Collins is a certified Pediatric Nurse (RN, CPN) currently pursuing her Master’s Degree. Nurse Wolin-Collins has participated in medical missions to the Middle East. Most recently she traveled to different areas of the Holy Land and to Amman Jordan. She also serves as the Patient Affairs Coordinator of the newly established Tampa Bay chapter of the Palestine Children’s Relief Fund.
Kayla Mueller, an American humanitarian aid worker from Prescott, Arizona, was killed by the IS “Islamic State” while volunteering to help Syrian refugees displaced due to the civil war. Kayla is a role model in her dedication to serving humanity. She represents America at is best, working tirelessly to alleviate the suffering of people in need. The American Human Rights Council (AHRC-USA) is committed to honoring Kayla’s life, sacrifices, and legacy by recognizing fellow humanitarians working hard to promote, protect, and advance human rights with an award bearing her name.
