Shejaiya, Gaza Strip, Palestine — One year has passed since the brutal Israeli war against the Gaza Strip and Palestine, and the destruction of thousands of homes and memories of thousands murdered by Israel remains strong.
The Israeli war began at the end of Ramadan last year and its commemoration coincides with Ramadan this year.
These photographs taken in Shejaiya (Shujayya, Shujaiya) show Palestinian children and families as they mark the end of Ramadan and the Eid al Fitr, and the anniversary of the Gaza War one year later.
Despite funding commitments from the international community, little has been accomplished as a result of Israel blockade of the Gaza Strip. Israel asserts that it evacuated the Gaza Strip but the truth is that Israel’s military has turned Gaza into an open air prison.
Palestinian children played on a swing near the ruins of houses, that witnesses said were destroyed by Israeli shelling during a 50-day war last summer, on the first day of Eid al-Fitr holiday, marking the end of the holy month of Ramadan, in the east of Gaza City.

'Unbreakable' is the Grand Jury Winner in the photography competition, organised by the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs in the Middle East and North Africa (UN OCHA).
