Hanania publishes new book, PoweR PR, offering communications strategies for Minorities

Veteran syndicated columnist and former award winning Chicago City Hall political reporter Ray Hanania released his newest book this week called “PoweR PR: Ethnic Activist’s Guide to Strategic Communications & challenging the biased Mainstream Media” intended to help minorities and ethnic groups that have been marginalized and excluded from the “Biased Mainstream News Media” overcome those biases.

Hanania, who entered professional journalism in 1975 after seeing the bias in the media’s coverage of the Middle East, shares his firsthand experiences in his dual life as both a former journalist and writer and President/CEO of Urban Strategies Group media relations and public affairs representing more than 75 clients in politics, government and the private sector.

The book offers “Strategies to overcome bias in the mainstream news media and correct inaccurate perceptions in Western and American societies; for those excluded by the Biased Mainstream News Media, the ‘Minority Minorities’.” Hanania offers the 10 fundamentals of effective Messaging, and defines the target audience of the book as “Minority Minorities” who have been marginalized, excluded and left out of the mass media by biased mainstream media robber barons.

“This book is for a very specific group of people that I call Minority Minorities, those who have been excluded, maligned or marginalized by the mainstream Western and specifically the American news media. Its for politicians and political activists who have been attacked unfairly by the news media. The news media is a biased institution driven by partisan interests and friendships and cronyism,” Hanania explains.

“The news media is a cesspool of hypocrisy. It consists of journalists who frequently violate the very principles they claim to champion, the right of fairness, objectivity and balance in reporting. The American news media is neither balanced, nor fair nor objective. They are biased and intentionally so.This book is for the local government official who worked hard all his or her life to represent his or her community by becoming elected to office only to find themselves attacked by the overly cynical news media that ONLY covers them when there is controversy and ignores them during everyday performances of their jobs. The media ignores the good stories and only publishes the bad stories about you. Thats a common complaint that this book will help you overcome and address proactively.”

Hanania said the book, PoweR PR is intended for “anyone who has been left out of media power because of who they are and what they believe. The strategies and ideas are here to help you strengthen your own media campaign and confront the bigotry and bias.”

The book discusses the fundamentals of an effective press release, but more importantly how to build your messages based on defining the target audience. Hanania explains the importance of crafting messages that appeal to the audiences in the manner that the audience requires to be approached.

“t’s not what you say but how you say it. You don’t win the argument or debate unless you win the target audience first. Perception is reality and truth sometimes is less important that the fiction and perception that defines an issue,” Hanania said. “Don’t just speak to the wind, speak to a target audience; Become the audience. You need to be honest about assessing your own shortcomings in order to develop and implement a communications strategy to change the public’s mind.”

Hanania said that Minority Minorities like American Arabs and Muslims have failed both to understand the strategic methods of effective communications and have failed to implement effective communications strategies.

A longtime Palestinian American Arab activist, Hanania has worked in the news media for nearly 40 years. He is the author of several books including the humor book “I’m Glad I Look Like a Terrorist: Growing up Arab in America” (1996) and “Arabs of Chicagoland” (2005). Hanania covered Chicago City Hall from 1976 until 1992 for the Daily Southtown and for 8 years with the Chicago Sun-Times. He currently provides media and PR consulting services to more than a dozen elected officials, governments and private businesses in Chicago, Illinois, Detroit, Michigan, Washington D.C., and Florida.

The book is available directly from Urban Strategies Group at www.UrbanStrategiesGroup.com in paperback format. It will soon be available in eBook for Kindle and iPad, and also in audio book format. You can also purchase the book directly from the Publishers at CafePress.com and get more information on PoweR PR only by CLICKING HERE.

The tips in my book give readers a hands on approach to how to write a good press release, and then, what to do with it to get it widespread viewing by the public, and the biased mainstream news media. (PR News Wire is selling its book on how to write press releases for $399.) The book is specifically written for ethnics and minorities who have been excluded from American communications by the biased mainstream news media.
