Podcast: Sir Rateb Rabie on Middle East Christians

Holy Land Ecumenical Foundation President Sir Rateb Rabie discusses the challenges facing Christians in the Middle East. He talks about the anti-Christian views of Republican Texas Senator Ted Cruz at a recent conference at the so-called “In Defense of Christians” conference held in Washington D.C. earlier in the month.
Rabie also noted that his protest and the protest of other Arab Christians was not just against the extremism of the right or the extremist pro-Israel movement, but also a firm statement in defense of Muslims against rightwing Christian fanaticism.
Rabie appeared on Talk of the Town Radio on WCEV 1450 AM Radio and simulcast on www.YahalaVoice.com on Friday Sept. 19, 2014. The one hour weekly radio program is hosted by award winning Chicago journalist Ray Hanania, managing editor of The Arab Daily News at www.TheArabDailyNews.com.
Rabie details the challenges facing Christians in the Middle East and the obligation of Muslims to fight for Christian Arab rights, especially the disappearing Palestinian Christians. Rabie argues that if Palestinian Christians, now less than 2 percent of the population in the Holy Land, vanish, it will mean the end of any hopes for peace.
Rabie and Hanania also discuss the importance of using Christian Arabs as a conduit between understanding the Israeli injustices against the Palestinian people by Israel and education the American public, which is predominantly Christians. Sadly, many American Christians are not really Christians and they have abandoned both the true Christians who live in the Middle East and the fundamental religious tenets of Christianity.

Christian Palestinians need more support from the Arab and Muslim World but they are not getting the level of support they need. The Arab and Muslim Worlds need to do more to defend Christian Arabs and to stand up to the oppression of Israel acknowledging that Christian Arabs are victims of Israeli racism and brutality, too. They need to be identified and addressed not just as Arabs but as Christian Arabs. Americans will better identify with the justice of the Palestine cause if they see the important role of Christian Arabs.
