In 2013, Malek appeared in the independent films Ain’t Them Bodies Saints, the remake of Oldboy and starred in the critically praised Short Term 12. The following year, he appeared in Need for Speed, Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb and Spike Lee’s Da Sweet Blood of Jesus.

In Mr. Robot, Christian Slater plays his deceased father who returns as an alter-ego engaging Malek’s character’s efforts to disrupt Internet security companies.

Mr. Robot completed its first season in 2015 and is scheduled to return in 2016.

Malek plays ayoung, anti-social computer programmer, Elliot, who works as a cyber-security engineer by day, but at night is a vigilante hacker. He is recruited by the mysterious leader of an underground group of hackers to join their organization. Elliot’s task? Help bring down corporate America, including the company he is paid to protect, which presents him with a moral dilemma. Although he works for a corporation, his personal beliefs make it hard to resist the urge to take down the heads of multinational companies that he believes are running — and ruining — the world.
