Marie Newman names Arab American as campaign chairwoman
Longtime Suburban Chicagoland community activist Shadin Maali was named as the Campaign Chairwoman for Marie Newman who is a candidate for the 3rd DIstrict Congressional seat held by Dan Lipinski. Maali’s appointment underscores Newman’s commitment to the district’s large Arab American population and community in general.
Marie Newman, Democratic candidate for Congress in Illinois’ Third District, named on Friday August 9, 2019 political activist and local coalition leader Shadin Maali as her 2020 Campaign Chairwoman.
Shadin Maali gave the following statement: “I am supporting Marie Newman’s campaign for Congress in Illinois’ Third District because this job is about representing the interests of the community over one’s personal agenda or the lobby of powerful special interests and corporate PACs. Marie Newman is the only candidate in this race who fits that job description” said Representative Khanna. “Marie’s mission is fighting for paid family leave, a progressive tax on ultra-millionaires, an infrastructure plan that creates green jobs — fighting for policies like these that will help bridge the income divide and improve everybody’s everyday.”
“I’m always impressed with someone as hardworking as Shadin” said Marie Newman.
“For the past two years, we have worked side by side on many projects and I have watched her drive positive change on multiple fronts. She is a brilliant leader and coalition builder whose work in many communities consistently produces outstanding results. For those reasons and many more, I’m so excited to have her leadership as Campaign Chairwoman.”
“I was so proud to support Shadin in her run for Moraine Valley Community College Board, and I’m incredibly proud to have her on our team” added Newman.
Marie Newman is running for Congress in Illinois’ 3rd District to be a real voice for working families and our Democratic values. Marie is a small business owner, national nonprofit leader, gun safety activist, and economic rights advocate. She has deep roots in Illinois’ 3rd District. Marie was born in Beverly, grew up in Palos Park, and raised her family in La Grange. Marie is running for Congress to deliver for her community on the things that Congressman Dan Lipinski won’t – higher wages, healthcare for all, universal child care, unity for all communities in IL-3 and greener jobs and transportation options.
