Yemeni Americans will organize a protest and shutter their bodegas (small stores) across the United States to express their opposition to restrictions imposed by President Donald Trump and his immigration ban.

About National #BodegaStrike Shutdown

On Tuesday, April 24th, Yemeni-Americans in heavily populated cities across the United States are calling for a one-hour shutdown of their Bodegas (small neighborhood food stores) to let the world know of their pain, and of the pain and suffering of other Yemeni-Americans who are separated from their families due to the #MuslimBan.

Bodega owners across the country call on their neighbors to stand with them and their workers outside their stores to show that America is bigger than this, that we are better when united than when we allow bigoted policies to divide us.

Merchants invite their neighbors and customers to join them with Yemeni sweets in person, and with messages of solidarity to be shared over social media.

For more than a year, President Trump’s Muslim Ban has separated Yemeni-American families and left them turmoil in neighboring countries after they fled from the war in Yemen. As the courts decide the legal merits of the President’s effort to turn campaign rhetoric into public policy, we must never lose sight of the real and devastating effect on human lives.
