Politicians VS We Americans and the USS LIBERTY

Politicians are professionally involved in politics, especially as a holder of or a candidate for an elected office.

Politicians are also defined as persons who act in manipulative and devious way to gain and keep power

We American supporters and USS Liberty survivors will never give up speaking truth to power

By Eileen Fleming, Joe Meadors, Phil Restino and Ernest Gallo

Reporting on the politicians attending a City Council meeting titled “Worcester city councilor questions advisory panel’s tactics” the Massachusetts telegram.com stated:

Moment of silence

The council made the unusual step of revisiting a moment of silence it stood for at the beginning of the meeting. Resident Kevin Kelly had petitioned the council to have a moment of silence to recognize the 50th anniversary of the attack on the USS Liberty, a Navy intelligence-gathering ship that was operating in the Mediterranean Sea during the six-day Middle East war when it was attacked by Israel, killing 34 American servicemen. Israel later said the attack was a mistake.

The item Mr. Kelly submitted to the council to be considered was a basic request to commemorate the anniversary. But when Mr. Kelly got up to read it, he disputed the official record, and called it a “sustained attack” by Israel. He accused both the Israeli and U.S. governments of “covering up” the story and “sweeping it under the rug.”

The council rose and performed a moment of silence, but a short while later at-large Councilor Mo Bergman asked to revisit the item. He called Mr. Kelly’s statements a political and religious attack, and said the petition put the council in a tough spot. Councilors might appear to be anti-armed services if they chose not to go along with the petition…Mr. Bergman suggested the council think about cautioning future petitioners to limit what they say to their original requests.

In response to politician Mo Bergman, USS LIBERTY survivor Joe Meadors responded by emailing the politician:

Subject: USS Liberty KIA Not Worth Moment of Silence

Councilor Bergman:

A June 13, 2017, article in the Worcester Telegram describes your refusal to stand during a Moment of Silence to honor 34 of our shipmates who were killed by the IDF during their attack on our ship on June 8, 1967.

According to the article, Mr. Kevin Kelly described the attack as “sustained” and accused the Israeli and American governments of “covering up” the attack.  In fact, the attack was both sustained and covered up by both governments.

While we support your right to selectively refuse to honor Americans who have been killed in action while serving our country, we strenuously object to your exercising that right.

We are hoping that you will tell us why in your opinion our 34 fallen shipmates are not worthy of being honored with a Moment of Silence.

Respectfully,

Joe Meadors

USS Liberty Survivor Director of Operations, USS Liberty Veterans Association

“I will never quit. My nation expects me to be physically harder and mentally stronger than my enemies. If knocked down I will get back up, every time. I will draw on every remaining ounce of strength to protect my shipmates and to accomplish our mission. I am never out of the fight.”  –USS Liberty Survivors’ Pledge

The Daytona Beach News-Journal published the following Letter regarding politician Ron DeSantis:

DeSantis claims to know nothing about the attack on the Liberty

Where are the wreaths for the known?

U.S. Rep. Ron DeSantis recently told constituents of how he participated in a wreath-laying ceremony at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier at Arlington National Cemetery. He told us to remember and give thanks to those who gave their lives in the service of our nation, as they are the “indispensable Americans without whom we would not be free.”

Ernie Gallo of Palm Coast is the USS Liberty Veterans Association’s president. On June 8, 1967, the USS Liberty, stationed in international waters, was attacked for two hours by the Israeli military. That left 34 U.S. sailors and Marines dead, 174 wounded and the Liberty the most decorated ship for a single engagement in U.S. Navy history.

The Navy Board of Inquiry following the attack was a farce and cover-up that included admirals threatening the survivors with court-martial, life imprisonment or “worse” if they ever spoke of the attack, as detailed in testimony to the commission convened by Adm. Tom Moorer, retired chief of naval operations and chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. Justice has been denied the men of the Liberty for 50 years. If moved to by his constituents, Rep. DeSantis could initiate a proper congressional investigation into the attack on the Liberty.

Like the men on the Liberty, DeSantis is a Navy man proud of his service as a JAG officer. He knows how a Navy Board of Inquiry is supposed to work. At noon on June 8, Gallo and his shipmates gathered at the tomb for their fallen crew members at Arlington National Cemetery. Although invited, Congressman DeSantis did not attend.

DeSantis claims to know nothing about the attack on the Liberty. We owe the 34 “indispensable Americans” who gave their lives on the USS Liberty. It’s time “we Americans” let Congressman DeSantis know about it.

In process is the “We Americans and the USS Liberty” DVD featuring Bryce Lockwood [pictured above with this reporter] and other USS Liberty veterans speaking about 50 yrs. post traumatic stress due to the 50 yr. USA Government Cover-up and Obstruction of Justice case against the USS Liberty survivors who were ordered to “Shut up” under threat of “court-martial or worse” if they spoke to any one about their eye witness experiences aboard the USS Liberty on 8 June 1967 when Israel attacked America’s then premier surveillance ship as she navigated in international waters during The Six Day War.

In this excerpt from the “We Americans and the USS Liberty” [soon to be released DVD] USS Liberty Commander David Ed Lewis speaks about his eye witness experiences:
