A group of young Kuwaitis are working to nominate the Emir of Kuwait Sheikh Sabah Al Ahmed Al Sabah for the Nobel Peace prize next year for his work in promoting peace, charity and understandings among the nations.

On Tuesday UN Secretary General Ban Ki Moon will be honoring the Emir for the humanitarian role he played in helping the UN dealing with refugees crises across the globe and in the region.

Sheikh Sabah ali Jaber al Ahmad Al Sabah the head of the Nobel Prize campaign told the Arab Daily News from Kuwait that the Emir should be honored with the Nobel Peace Prize because of his tireless work to promote peace and understanding not only in the Arab World, but also in the world. The State of Kuwait under the guidance and instructions of the Emir has donated over $5 billion last year alone to various charities and UN organizations to help the Syrian refugees and alleviate poverty conditions in Africa. In Africa alone Kuwait has donated one billion dollar and has hosted the donor conference for Syria donating hundreds of millions of dollars to aid the Syrian refugees.

Among the Emir Key humanitarian work is helping the Palestinians especially during and in the aftermath of the war on Gaza last July and that lasted for 51 days. Hamas leader Khaled Maeshaal had traveled to Kuwait during the height of the war at the invitation of the Emir in order to work out differences in Arab states position on how to best reach a cease fire and unify the Arab stance behind Gaza and the Palestinians.

Sheikh Al Sabah also said that the Emir has worked to promote better relations within the Arab Gulf states family especially in ending the disputes between Qatar and Saudi Arabia.

The efforts to nominate the Emir for the Nobel Prize is however done completely independent of the Kuwaiti government and even without the knowledge of the Emir. “This initiative is done by a group of young Kuwaitis to recognize the Emir’s contribution to humanity and to the Arab world.” Said Sheikh Al Sabah.

Al Sabah also added that “it is an honor for Kuwait, the Kuwait people and the Arab world to have our Emir win the Nobel Peace prize, but, that said, however, we are proud of our Emir regardless, and he will always be the great humanitarian leader representing the true spirit of Kuwait and its people.”

Abdullah Al Araradah the deputy head of the campaign commented on the work of the emir saying that “we the young people of Kuwait are proud of our Emir and his humanitarian work and we feel that he deserves to win the noble prize.”

The Kuwait News Agency (KUNA), reported that “Emir’s visit and honor ceremony at the UN in New York UN honoring of His Highness as “Humanitarian Leader,” and designating Kuwait as “Humanitarian Center.” “He is a great humanitarian leader, and life keeper of Kuwait,” Ban said, expressing deep gratitude to His Highness Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad for his personal efforts to get nations of capacity to donate aid together at the two forums in Kuwait. “I hope many countries will emulate such Kuwaiti leadership,” the UN chief added, underscoring Kuwait’s generous contributions to global and regional efforts to aid people afflicted with crises and catastrophes”
