Muslim community hosts Eid Al-Fitr prayers honoring Mayor Brandon Johnson
Chicago, IL. — The Islamic Community Center of Illinois (ICCI) will host Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson at their Eid Al-Fitr celebration which marks the end of Ramadan on Wednesday April 10, 2024 at the Donald E. Stephens Convention & Center, 5555 N. River Road in Rosemont.
Mayor Johnson is expected to address the gathering of more than 10,000 Chicago region Muslims and Arabs who will gather to mark the conclusion of Ramadan.
The event will feature short prayers, remarks and recognition of officials between 8 AM and 11 AM. Mayor Johnson is confirmed and scheduled to speak to the gathering at 9 AM.
“This is an important event for Muslims throughout the world including those in Chicago and the surrounding suburbs,” said organizer and ICCI Board member Hassan Nijem.
“We are honored to have Chicago Mayor Johnson attend and address our gathering. He has shown great leadership since becoming mayor, leadership that is built on respect of others and an embrace of fairness and equality.”
The media is invited to attend at set up between 8 AM and 8:45 AM.
