“Dear Gaza” dinner to raise funds in Minneapolis Sept. 22

The 4th Annual “Dear Gaza Azume” (Dinner) to raise money for the victims of Israeli oppression in the Gaza Strip will take place in Minneapolis on Saturday, Sept. 22, 2018 held at 1200 South Marquette Avenue, Minneapolis, MN 55403.

Help us provide urgent medical care to the people of the Gaza Strip while celebrating Palestinian culture!

Many hospitals lack modern medical supplies to treat Gaza’s sick. They face shortages of supplies like blood bags and common medications. Basic life essentials like water and electricity are at a severe shortage. Due to inconsistent support from Gaza’s fuel and electricity providers, power cuts occur daily. Faucets often run dry.

For the past 3 years Dear Gaza has raised over $20,000 each year which Anera matches to $1.3 million worth of medical supplies for the Gaza Strip. These efforts help provide urgently needed medicines, equipment, wheelchairs, over-the-counter drugs and health care supplies to the people in Gaza. Join us in saving lives at the Dear Gaza Dinner.

The evening will commence with a Palestinian dinner catered by Holy Land and words from honorary speaker Ilhan Omar. We will end the night with music curated by DJ Egypto Knuckles, an art auction, and Dabke is Life workshop with Ahmed Hamad!

Dress like you’re going to an Azume at your amtos house : )

Palestinian traditions embody a culture of generosity and hospitality we hope to emulate these traditions with you!

The event is coordinated with the “Dear Gaza Block Party” that will be held on Saturday Sept. 29.

The organizers have made it easy for anyone to support the effort and donate to the Dear Gaza project to help Gaza residents by setting up a relationship with ANERA (American Near East Refugee Aid). All of the funds raised at the “Dear Gaza Block Party” are given directly to ANERA for direct distribution to support Palestinians in the Israeli terrorized Gaza Strip.

Dear Gaza is an inspiring artist showcase and fundraiser that pursues aid-funding for the ongoing plight of the Gaza Strip. The theme of the block party connects local humanitarians with issues in the Gaza Strip through art. The event hosts live music, spoken word poetry, dance, interactive art activities, Palestinian style food and more from artists in solidarity with the people of Gaza.

This year in addition to the block party we are hosting the first Dear Gaza Azume (dinner) on September 22nd. The evening will commence with a Palestinian dinner catered by Holy Land, and words from honorary speaker Ilhan Omar. We will end the night with music curated by DJ Egypto Knuckles, an art auction, and Dabke life workshop with Ahmed Hamad!

Each year, thanks to local humanitarians like you, we are able to raise over $20,000 for Gaza. This initial investment is then turned into $1.3 million worth of medical supplies by our NGO partner Anera through their medical and relief In-Kind program delivering critical medical supplies and healthcare equipment to local organizations in Gaza donated by partners at the International Health Partners organization.

How you can help:

Anera has matched DEAR GAZA’s $20,000 and $30,000 raised with $1.3 million dollars’ worth of medical supplies between 2015 and 2017. Anera is the only US-approved non-religious NGO that has access to the Gaza Strip. 50 years of development work in the Middle East. Recipient of USAID grants for 46 years. Anera is a 501c3 non-governmental organization. ( All donations are tax deductible )

The donations for the Dear Gaza Block Party begin small and grow based on your ability to help:

Relief Package : $250

What can a $250 donation do?

  • Buy $3,750 worth of medicine or feed a family for 2 months
  • Provide 25 people with wheelchairs or buy 500 baby care kits

Music and Art Package : $500

Each year the lineup of DEAR GAZA is carefully considered to fit the tone and ambitions of our event. This package is your chance to get involved in the artistic curation of DEAR GAZA. Sponsor a poet, dance group, musician, or band of your choice as part of the Music and Art Package and reap benefits.

Refugee Package : $1,000

60% of Gaza’s population is made up of refugees. Help us help them by making a contribution towards our cumulative annual fundraiser.

What can $1,000 donation do?

  • Buy $15,000 worth of medicine or feed a family for 10 months
  • Provide 100 people with wheelchairs or buy 2,000 baby care kits

Music and Art Package : $500

Each year the lineup of DEAR GAZA is carefully considered to fit the tone and ambitions of our event. This package is your chance to get involved in the artistic curation of DEAR GAZA. Sponsor a poet, dance group, musician, or band of your choice as part of the Music and Art Package and reap benefits.

Water Package : $2,500

90% of Gaza’s water is unfit to drink. Nearly 10% of Palestinian communities in the West Bank have no access to piped potable water systems. “Buy your friend a drink” is a lemonade stand which will focus on ANERA’s water program and provide clean drinking water to families in Gaza with every drink bought. The stand will reciprocate Palestinian culture of generosity while educating attendees about the water crisis. With this package your logo will be prominently placed on the stand and educational pamphlets.

Olive Tree Package : $5,000

The olive tree is the symbol of peace and generosity as it provides a living for thousands of Palestinians. This package mimics the generosity of the olive tree, with its sponsor matching our $5,000 donated at the Dear Gaza block party. To show our appreciation we will honor these sponsors at the Dear Gaza Azume fundraiser and designate a VIP table for them.

All checks and donations are to be made out to ANERA.

About ANERA

For 50 years, Anera has helped refugees and others hurt by conflicts in the Middle East live with dignity and purpose. Anera, which has no political or religious affiliation, works on the ground with partners in the West Bank, Gaza, Lebanon and Syria. We mobilize resources for immediate emergency relief and for sustainable, long-term health, education, and economic development. Our staff serve in their communities, navigating the politics that constrict progress to get help where it’s needed most. That’s how Anera delivered more than $67 million in programs in 2017 alone, and it’s how we will keep building better lives until hope finds its way in the Middle East.
