16th Annual MAS-ICNA Convention Dec. 28-30

MAS-ICNA convention has been blessed with an astounding challenge: to help Muslims in America overcome the new challenges this country now faces while simultaneously overcoming the challenges within their souls.

The convention is focused on rejuvenating the souls of Muslims through the love of Islam and consequently revitalize the spirit of Muslims in these inauspicious times.

The convention is an experience which unites Muslims all over the world under one roof to affirm their faith and their role in the domestic and global society.

The convention usually attracts more than 20,000 attendees and features more than 375 participant booths and displays. Events include an InterFaith Symposium, Muslim comedy performances, and speakers addressing a wide range of Islamic and societal issues.

MAS ICNA is proud to announce its partnership with MUHSEN, an organization centered around helping those with disabilities. “M.U.H.S.E.N” stands for Muslims Understanding and Helping Special Education Needs.

The event will be held at McCormick Place, the largest convention center in North America. It consists of four interconnected buildings sited on and near the shore of Lake Michigan, about 4 km south of downtown Chicago, Illinois, United States.

ABOUT MAS/ICNA

The Annual MAS-ICNA Convention is one of the largest and most diverse Islamic conventions in North America. The convention takes place in Chicago, Illinois every December during the winter holiday season. By the grace of God and the unique effort of over 300 volunteers, the number of attendees has successfully grown from 1,500 in 2001 to 15,000 in 2015.

The Muslim American Society (MAS) and Islamic Circle of North America (ICNA) are dynamic, religious, and educational organizations that offer unique programs and services that seek to better the individual and in turn, the greater society by imparting Islamic knowledge, promoting community service, and much more. With similar goals and missions, both Islamic organizations teamed up to produce two successful conventions every year: the MAS Convention in Chicago, Illinois and the ICNA Convention in Baltimore, Maryland. The ICNA convention has successfully gathered over 20,000 attendees from all around the world.

As a family oriented event, every year MAS-ICNA Convention chooses a theme that fulfills the needs of the Muslim American family. The themes are often categorized in topics of spirituality, activism and knowledge. The MAS-ICNA Convention offers a wide variety of simultaneously run programs for different ages and interests. Lectures for young adults and youth not only teach the fundamentals of Islam but teach them how to implement the teachings of the Prophet (Peace be Upon Him) in their daily lives and encounters. This year’s theme is “American Muslims: Islamic Duties and Civic Obligations.”

The MAS-ICNA Islamic Convention seeks to provide an atmosphere that is energized by unified praise and worship by offering a variety of lectures which depict solid Islamic teaching.  Every year thousands of people from across the U.S. attend the convention to hear from many renowned world speakers such as: Imam Suhaib Webb, Ustadh Nouman Ali Khan, Dr. Jamal Badawi, Imam Omar Suleiman, Imam Zaid Shakir, Ustadha Yasmin Mogahed, and many more!

In addition to these lectures, the convention provides various programs including: intensive workshops which are provided to help enhance skills that are necessary for success; a diverse and unique 350 Booth-Bazaar and entertainment sessions which include basketball tournaments, Qur’an competitions, comedic skits, a kids carnival, and Islamic nasheeds (music). The MAS-ICNA Convention is concluded with the main inspiration night which features guest appearances by star performers: Mesut Kurtis, Native Deen, Omar Regan, and many more!

Ray Hanania is an award winning political columnist and author. He covered Chicago Politics and Chicago City Hall from 1976 through 1992. Hanania began writing in 1975 when he published The Middle Eastern Voice newspaper in Chicago (1975-1977). He later published “The National Arab American Times” newspaper which was distributed through 12,500 Middle East food stores in 48 American States (2004-2007).

Palestinian, American Arab and Christian, Hanania’s parents originate from Jerusalem and Bethlehem.

Hanania is the recipient of four (4) Chicago Headline Club “Peter Lisagor Awards” for Column writing. In November 2006, he was named “Best Ethnic American Columnist” by the New American Media;In 2009, he received the prestigious Sigma Delta Chi Award for Writing from the Society of Professional Journalists. He is the recipient of the MT Mehdi Courage in Journalism Award. Hanania has also received two (2) Chicago Stick-o-Type awards from the Chicago Newspaper Guild, and in 1990 was nominated by the Chicago Sun-Times for a Pulitzer Prize for his four-part series on the Palestinian Intifada.

His wife and son are Jewish and he performs standup comedy lampooning Arab-Jewish relations, advocating for peace based on non-violence, mutual recognition and Two-States.
