Two Arab-themed films featured at Israeli film Festival


The 31st Israel Film Festival in Los Angeles, which runs November 5th – 21st, will host the Los Angeles premiere of Holy Air, a comedy written, directed, and starring Shady Srour as a Christian Arab man living in Nazareth—a member of a vanishing minority within a minority in the Holy Land and the Middle East and the west coast premiere of the comedic drama In Between, from Palestinian filmmaker Maysaloun Hamoud, about three ambitious, educated and sexually liberated Arab women living together in Tel Aviv.

Holy Air screens November 11th at 7:15 pm at Laemmle Ahrya Fine Arts Theatre followed by a panel discussion with its filmmaker Shady Srour and 15 leading Israeli directors, writers, producers; November 12th at 5:00 pm followed by Q & A with filmmaker Shady Srour and producer Ilan Moksovitch at the Laemmle Town Center; and November 15th at 7:15 pm followed by Q &A with Srour and Moksovitch at the Laemmle Royal Theatre.

In Between screens November 6th at 9:45 pm at the Laemmle Town Center Theatre; November 9th at 9:45 pm at the Laemmle Ahrya Fine Arts Theatre; November 12th at 5:00 pm at the Laemmle Royal Theatre; and November 18th at 9:30 pm at the Laemmle Royal Theatre.

The Israel Film Festival in Los Angeles, which runs November 5th – 21st, takes place at the Ahrya Fine Arts by Laemmle (Beverly Hills), Laemmle Royal Theater (West L.A.) and the Laemmle Town Center 5 (Encino). Ray Hanania is an award winning political columnist and author. He covered Chicago Politics and Chicago City Hall from 1976 through 1992. Hanania has also received two (2) Chicago Stick-o-Type awards from the Chicago Newspaper Guild, and in 1990 was nominated by the Chicago Sun-Times for a Pulitzer Prize for his four-part series on the Palestinian Intifada.

His wife and son are Jewish and he performs standup comedy lampooning Arab-Jewish relations, advocating for peace based on non-violence, mutual recognition and Two-States.
